3 Reasons To Consider Secure Dentures

Dental Veneers 2 Las Cruces, NM - Advanced Dental

You’ve heard the expression, “grow old gracefully,” but what does that really mean? For some people, hearing that phrase might conjure images of the person who takes cosmetic surgery to the extreme, where after a certain number of face lifts, he or she becomes barely recognizable.

That’s all well and good if that’s a person’s goal to begin with. After all, everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their own skin, and it’s really no one else’s business how they choose to accomplish that.

On the flip side, consider the person who chooses to embrace the aging process. The person who avoids cosmetic surgery. The person who takes a more natural approach to ‘aging gracefully’ through proper diet, exercise, and skincare.

This is also well and good. Again, everyone has the right to approach aging the way he or she sees fit. But it does beg the question: is growing old gracefully synonymous with acceptance of things that need not be?

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, about 25% of adults age 60 and over have lost all of their teeth. That’s a pretty staggering number when you think about it. If you’re in that 25%, you’ve probably thought about it quite a lot already. So our question for you today is this:

Are you wearing removable dentures simply because you’ve just accepted it as part of “growing old gracefully”?

If the answer is yes, today’s blog is for you!

If you’re wearing removable dentures and are perfectly happy with them, that’s wonderful. But if you’re not happy with them but think they’re your only option, we have good news for you!

At Advanced Dental in Las Cruces, NM, we offer the kind of replacement options people didn’t used to have. There are certainly benefits to removable dentures, but today, we’d like you to know that they aren’t your ONLY option. You don’t necessarily have to accept traditional dentures simply because you think there is no other way.

We’re sharing some reasons to consider implant-supported dentures as a viable option for replacing your teeth and restoring the beautiful smile you had when you were younger. Although there are many benefits to choosing secure dentures, today we’re sharing three.

  1. Cost

It may surprise you that we’d mention cost as a good reason to go with implant-supported dentures considering that, on average, implants cost quite a bit more than traditional dentures.

We can’t list a set price of secure dentures here because the cost differs so much from patient to patient. It depends on such variables as your insurance coverage, how many teeth would need to be replaced, and where you choose to have it done.

What we can tell you, however, is that secure dentures could be worth the investment simply because of durability. Depending on the quality of work, your secure dentures could last you the rest of your life, while traditional dentures will likely need to be modified and/or replaced every few years.

  1. Care

Wearing removable dentures can be a lot of work. You have to keep them meticulously cleaned every day. Also, because they can tend to slip while you eat, it’s more likely you can get food particles stuck around your gums. This would put you at a greater risk for problems such as gum disease.

It’s also better for your health since you have more flexibility with maintaining proper nutrition. Traditional dentures limit what you’re able to comfortably eat, so diet is definitely something to think about.

Considering your oral and overall health, secure dentures are a great option because it’s much easier to keep them clean since it only requires brushing and flossing like you do now.

  1. Confidence

You don’t have to accept the downsides of traditional dentures like embarrassing slipping while you speak or giving up some of your favorite foods as just normal parts of getting older. With today’s advanced technology, you can enjoy the same quality of life as you did when you had all of your natural teeth thanks to implant-supported dentures.
