Dental Sedation Relieves Dental Anxiety

Dental Sedation Relieves Dental Anxiety

Welcome to the Advanced Dental of Las Cruces blog!

Where have you been hiding? Isn’t it about time to schedule your next checkup? It’s alright if you are a little anxious, or even flat-out scared to visit the dentist. This is a very real, and dangerous condition known as dental anxiety.

The good news is that, around here, we know just what to do about such feelings. Our caring and compassionate crew will furnish you with a welcoming environment and gentle dental services.

You have to remember that, while steering clear of our office may be the easy thing to do right now, eventually you will be the one paying the price.

It is in your best interest to take full advantage of the professional teeth cleanings that can keep food particles, tartar and plaque from causing cavities, gum disease, and other undesirable issues in your mouth.

Beyond that, our in-depth dental exams will allow us to detect any developing problems before it is too late. It is always better to catch things early!

Perhaps you had a particularly bad experience with a previous dentist or a painful encounter with a dental drill. That can cause an aversion to the treatment you really need to keep you on-track.

Don’t worry, you won’t be subjected to pain or bad treatment on our watch. In fact, we actually want to help create new and better memories for you to take with you throughout your life.

In our office we go to great lengths to provide an inviting atmosphere for you, our honored guest. We pay attention to your concerns. And, most importantly, we are pleased to be able to offer sedation dentistry as a way to make you feel more relaxed and less anxious about your visit.

How does that sound?

Still, you might be wondering what dental sedation is all about and just what your options are. Regardless of the procedure you are coming in for, while you are at Advanced Dental of Las Cruces, you will be allowed to choose between nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation methods.

Laughing Gas

This is our basic and most universal sedation dentistry option. Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”) is delivered to you through a mask that fits over your nose. It is a great solution for patients who have a mild level of anxiety.

During your nitrous oxide session, you will remain fully awake, though completely relaxed, and once it is over, you can get right back to whatever you were doing before.

In our experience, nitrous oxide has been effective for patients of all ages and is an extremely popular dental sedation method around here.

Oral Sedation

Anxiety levels vary from patient to patient. That’s why we offer oral sedation as a way to take sedation dentistry to the next level for those who could benefit from it. This method comes in the form of a pill and is used to treat more intense feelings of anxiety.

If this is the best option for you, we will give you a prescription to fill prior to your appointment.

As with laughing gas, the oral sedation method will allow you to remain awake during your time here, though you may not remember any of dental procedures you experienced.

Keep in mind that its effects do last a while longer than those of nitrous oxide, which is why we insist that, for this level of sedation, you will need to line-up someone to drive you to and from our office.
