Don’t Let Fear Wreck Your Oral Health!

Hello and welcome to the Advanced Dental of Las Cruces blog!

Today we want to talk about a particular type of fear that afflicts millions of folks around the world: dental anxiety.

Dental anxiety is when you have an aversion to dental pain (real or imagined), and want to avoid confronting the reality of your oral health because of previous bad experiences with dentists or a more general fear of the unknown. Once you’ve started avoiding the dentist for extended periods of time, you may become worried that you have put yourself in real danger, and you’d rather not deal with that either. Trust us, it is a downward spiral that won’t be good for your continued well being.

But we can help get you back on track.

Friendly Staff, Laid-Back Environment

We provide a welcoming environment and offer a gentle approach to dentistry. Plus, we have the sort of professional teeth cleanings that can keep food, tartar and plaque from causing decay, periodontal disease, and other problems in your mouth.

What’s more, our thorough exams will give you a heads up on any emerging issues before it is too late to take the easy way out. Obviously, early detection is always better for everyone. But you have to come in regularly in order for us to be of much help!

Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be scared of in our New Mexico practice. Here at Advanced Dental, we will pay close attention to your concerns. And there won’t be any lectures awaiting you.

Perhaps most importantly, we can put your fears to rest with sedation dentistry. When you are a guest of Advanced Dental of Las Cruces, you will be allowed to choose between nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation methods to help you relax. That is true regardless of the procedure you are getting.

Nitrous Oxide

Everyone has probably at least heard of this one. Nitrous Oxide is our basic and most universal sedation dentistry option. The “Laughing Gas” is delivered to you through a mask that fits comfortably over your nose. It is a great solution for patients who have a mild level of anxiety.

During your nitrous oxide session, you will remain fully awake, though completely relaxed, and once it is over, you can get right back to whatever you were doing before.

Nitrous oxide has been effective for patients of all ages and is an extremely popular dental sedation method.

Oral Sedation

No two patients are ever the same. Anxiety levels vary from person to person. That’s why we offer oral sedation as a way to take sedation dentistry to the next level for those who could benefit from it. This method comes in the form of a pill and is used to treat more intense feelings of anxiety.

For this one, we will give you a prescription to fill ahead of your scheduled appointment.

Like laughing gas, the oral sedation method will allow you to remain awake during your time here, though you may not remember any of dental procedures you experienced. That’s the nice thing.

Bear in mind that its effects do last longer than those of nitrous oxide, which is why we insist that, for this level of sedation, you will need to line-up someone to drive you to and from our office. You won’t be ready to hit the road in such a relaxed state.
