What is general dentistry?
General dentistry is the preventive arm of dental care. This is where Dr. Reiter will spend time making sure that your teeth and gums are healthy and ready to do the job they are supposed to do. Dental exams and dental cleanings, dental sealants, fluoride treatment and varnish, gum disease treatment, and even TMJ treatment fall under general dentistry. Trust Dr. Reiter and his staff at Advanced Dental with the health of your smile today.
Why are dental cleanings and dental exams important?
Routine cleanings and exams are what allow us the opportunity to make sure your smile is in good shape. Regular dental exams and cleanings should take place every six months in general, though you may have a condition that requires more frequent trips to the dentist. Gum disease is an example of this and may require you to come back every three or four months until the infection is under control.
Why should I worry about gum disease?
Gum disease is responsible for more adult tooth loss than any other factor. Another reason you should worry about gum disease is there is 50 percent chance that you have some form of it. That number goes up to 70 if you are over age 65. Gum disease can also be dangerous to your overall health – it is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and a number of other problems. You have quite a few reasons to worry about gum disease, but we can treat this disease in our office and reduce your risk of both oral and overall health problems.
What is TMJ?
TMJ, or TMJ disorder, refers to problems in the joint that attaches your jaw to the rest of your skull. Problems in this joint can be painful and may need help to resolve. TMJ disorder can even be the cause behind your migraine and headache symptoms. Dr. Reiter can fit you with an oral appliance that will take pressure off the joint and give it a chance to rest and get better. The appliance can also alleviate chronic headaches related to TMJ disorder.
