Are you missing teeth? Have you been told you need to have your damaged teeth extracted? Do you have severe decay eating away at your teeth? Or are you just tired of your removable dentures slipping and falling out? When you are missing teeth, you may become self-conscious and feel embarrassed to laugh out loud in public. You should never have to feel this way. The team at Advanced Dental of Las Cruces is here to help you.
Implant-retained dentures are dentures that are attached to dental implants. We often use a method of placing just four or six implants into your lower or upper jaw, respectively. We can create a custom set of dentures to attach to your implants, or we may be able to adjust your current dentures to connect to the implants. Implant-retained dentures are stabilized by the implants, while traditional removable dentures do not connect to anything and instead rest solely on your gums.
One of the main reasons patients choose implant-retained dentures is because they provide additional support. Traditional dentures can move around and may slip or feel as though they are going to slip or move when you are talking, eating, or laughing. This can make daily tasks uncomfortable or even embarrassing. With implant retained dentures, the implants lock the dentures in place and prevent them from moving around or slipping. They also prevent you from having to use messy adhesives, and come with the added benefit of you being able to eat just about anything you want without fear of your dentures slipping out.
Before we can place the dentures in your mouth, you must have a consultation with Dr. Reiter so that we can determine the best options for you. During your consultation, you will receive an exam, and he will go over your dental and medical health with you. Dr. Reiter will take digital X-Rays of your teeth and jawbone to get a better look at what is going on. If you need to have teeth removed, we will extract them prior to the placement of the implants (should that be the best course of action for you).
Dr. Reiter will go over the procedure with you and explain everything to you at your consultation. It is important to take note of any before-procedure and aftercare instructions provided to you by the him. We even keep a 3D record of your secure dentures in case you ever need a replacement set made.
